In ‘Summer Solstice’ (2005) the lives of separate individuals become intertwined in the town of Cregean in the Scottish Highlands. Set three years on from the sequence of events in ‘Winter Solstice’ (2003), the ex-actress Elfrida has finally found a peaceful and tranquil life with her partner Oscar (Jan Niklas). For the people around them, however, their lives are about to be turned upside down when a libel case causes a ripple effect of scandal and shock within the community. What will become of what was once a harmonious existence? In the miniseries ‘Four Seasons’, the story unfolds over summer, autumn, winter and spring as the Combes family experience trying times when the management of their vast estate, Endellion, comes under scrutiny while the return of an unwanted guest invites further upheaval. In the miniseries ‘The Shell Seekers’, after suffering a minor heart attack Penelope Keeling (Vanessa Redgrave) takes time to reflect on her life so far; heartbreak, three estranged children and an unhappy marriage have all taken their toll. When her daughter’s lover Cosmo (Sebastian Koch) brings his daughter Antonia (Stephanie Stumph) to stay, Penelope learns that she has fallen for the mysterious Danus (Lukas Gregorowicz). Seeing the relationship as doomed, Penelope believes she must learn from her mistakes if the heartbreak and loss she suffered with her wartime lover are not to be repeated. Finally in ‘September’ (1995) Verena Steynton (Judy Parfitt) decides to hold a party for her daughter and invite the most upper-class families from all over the Highlands of Scotland, but she gets more than she bargained for when her guests bring with them their deepest, darkest secrets.
