When wily entrepreneur Focaccia (Ugo Tognazzi) meets a withdrawn young woman, Maria (Annie Girardot), suffering from a condition that causes her to have excessive hair on her face and body he tries to capitalise on her ailment for profit. In order to take her from the convent in Naples where she lives the nuns insist that he must marry her. Following the marriage, Maria and Focaccia move to Paris where she is exhibited to the public. But will Focaccia’s exploitation bear any consequences?
